THE FISHERWOMAN-

Everyone could use a hero in these trying times—

Pamela Dunlap, WV Fly Girl, has been honored as one of West Virginia’s 2021 “Wonder Women” by WV Living, the premier lifestyle and travel magazine in the Mountain State. They are celebrating these amazing women who are raising the bar in their communities, serving as beacons of light in their industries, and forcing change for the greater good. No need for bulletproof bracelets or a golden lasso of truth—these women are creating a better West Virginia with their can-do attitudes and Mountain State spirit.

This annual event recognizes influential women driving change not with superpowers, but through hard work. Pamela joins the ranks of 50 inspiring women who are blazing trails in their industries.

There’s an assortment of reasons that make Pamela deserving of this award, she has had a positive impact on many women from West Virginia and throughout the mid-Atlantic region. She strives to inspire, educate and support others to be the best they can be by developing new skills, camaraderie and friendships through fly fishing. Giving back is a priority as she takes a lady with a health hardship every year on a trip.

Pam’s Wonder Woman qualities extend outside the group as well. She has volunteered for Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing, the Mayfly Project, and Beyond the Backyard and is a Trout Unlimited member. She also co-founded International Women’s Fly Fishing Day. She can be seen and heard on podcasts, interviews and trade shows as a guest speaker.

Not only does Pam support fly fishing she also promotes tourism in our beautiful state of West Virginia. She has reached outside the state borders to ladies across the USA to Ireland and the world.

It’s an honor for our Fly girl to be recognized for her dedication to helping others in this great sport. We give thanks to WV Living and women across all sectors and walks of life who are making a difference in the Mountain State.

WV Living Magazine 2021 Wonder Woman award

IT ALL STARTED ON A DATE “I was never an outdoor girl but accepted a fly fishing date. With his help, I reeled in my very first fish, a beautiful rainbow trout. From that day forward, my confidence grew with every catch.”

AND BECAME A PASSION “In 2015 my positive growth prompted the development of Women Wine & Waders, a unique organization that contributes to the health and well-being of women through fly fishing. This group is a diverse mixture of like-minded women of all ages and skill levels.

IT’S ABOUT MORE THAN FISHING “The Annual Spring Fly Fishing Festival is our most significant trip of the year. Each year a lady dealing with a health adversity is chosen to receive a complimentary getaway with the group. The group strives to inspire, educate, and support others to be the best the can be.”
